Professor Marie Battiste – Indigenizing the Academy


Dr. Marie Battiste, Professor of Education at the University of Saskatchewan, is originally from the Potlotek First Nation (Chapel Island on the Bras d’Or Lake).

An internationally recognized Mi’kmaq scholar, Dr. Battiste has done much to protect indigenous knowledge and promote improved practices in indigenous education.

She holds a BSc from the University of Maine, an MEd from Harvard, an EdD from Stanford, and honorary doctorates from Saint Mary’s University and the University of Maine, Farmington.
