Dr. Peter C. Smith is a research scientist in the Ocean Sciences Division of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, and also an Adjunct Professor in the Oceanography Department of Dalhousie University. His research specializes in physical oceanographic field observations and data analysis/interpretation. In the recent past, he has been a principal investigator in the Lunenburg Bay Project, in collaboration with his Dalhousie colleagues, and is presently an investigator in Dalhousie’s Strategic Network Grant proposal to NSERC for research associated with OTN. Within the OTN project itself, he is responsible for the installation and maintenance of instrumentation on the Halifax Line, the inaugural “acoustic curtain” of OTN on Canada’s east coast.
Dr. Smith’s other research interests include the resource potential and environmental impacts of tidal power generation in the Bay of Fundy, assessment of offshore environmental factors related to oil and gas exploration and production on the east coast of Canada and in the Arctic, and the use of remote sensing in support of DFO operations and marine ecosystem research.
