Susan started with OTN in 2008 organizing conferences and performing other administrative duties. Later that year, she was hired on full time as the OTN Data Manager. Susan trained to be a marine biologist at Dalhousie University, where she received a BSc in Biology and Mathematics and then an MSc studying the population dynamics of sperm whales in the South Pacific, tracking them using photoidentification. Prior to joining OTN, she worked for the New England Aquarium as a marine mammal observer in aerial surveys of North Atlantic right whales and as a marine mammal specialist for the consulting firm LGL Limited.
