On June 15, 2010, a container full of OTN equipment left Halifax to begin a six-week journey to Pangnirtung, Nunavut, in the Canadian Arctic. Included were 30 acoustic receivers, 30 acoustic releases, and 60 steel anchors each weighing 210 pounds, along with other miscellaneous gear. The container will travel via transport truck to Montréal, Canada, where it will board a container ship for Pangnirtung, arriving at its final destination July 26th.
The equipment will be deployed in Cumberland Sound, Baffin Island, as part of research conducted by Aaron Fisk, a scientist at the University of Windsor. Dr. Fisk's research is part of the OTN Canada research program, funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and was recently highlighted in newspapers across Canada. For additional information on his research, you can link to these news items via the OTN in the News section of this website (see items on "Blackberrys for Fish").
Additional images of the Pangnirtung container can be found in the OTN Multimedia Gallery in the section on Arctic deployments.
