On April 21, 2008, OTN team members began placing acoustic receivers on the
bottom of the NW Atlantic, initiating the deployment of OTN's inaugural
listening line, the Halifax Line.
In collaboration with researchers Peter Smith, Murray Scotney, and colleagues
at Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Bedford Institute of Oceanography, the OTN
deployment team placed 29 acoustic receivers in a line extending more than 20
km offshore of Halifax.
Plans are in place to extend the Halifax Line to about 200 km offshore, involving some 260 acoustic receivers.
Additional images and video from the Halifax Line deployment can be found in the OTN Multimedia Gallery.
